Welcome!

I study inclusive human-computer interaction (HCI) for a living. For me, inclusion means that people can lead meaningful, self-determined lives, regardless of any deviations from the „norm“ (whatever that is). I research how technology might help with people with that, and what the interface between people, processes, and technology might look like. I work as closely as possible with those who use or are affected by the technology I study. Within HCI, I am active in the subfields of eHealth, accessibility, and social computing.

I am particularly interested in intercultural communication, mental health and wellbeing, and physical conditions that affect thinking and moving. I often work with health and social care professionals, psychologists, security and privacy specialists, and professional software engineers.

I specialise in empirical studies of people and use methods from psychology, linguistics, anthropology, and statistical modelling. Sometimes, the technologies I study are based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), sometimes, I use AI and Machine Learning for creating models and analyses, and sometimes, I use it to check grammar and spelling and help with translations.
